As the new Principal at Manteo Elementary School, I want to start by thanking everyone for the welcome home feel I have received so far in my return to Manteo. Once again, the family feel of Manteo prevails, just as I was welcomed with open arms when my career started here as a teacher, I have felt the same since being named your Principal. The welcoming arms, lasting friendships and genuine support that I received here from the beginning will be something that I will never forget and plan on continuing this type of tradition with all of our students here at MES. George Washington Carver once said, “ Education is understanding relationships.” As a classroom science teacher in Manteo, I relied on building positive relationships with all of my students every day as the cornerstone to learning. Now as your school leader I will continue to foster relationships through collaboration, communication, and continued support focused on doing what's best for all of our students. Rest assured that you will see me out and about within your community so that we can make educating your child a collaborative process.
As it pertains to my personal educational journey, I received my undergraduate degree in Biology with a concentration in Pre-Med, and then received continuing education credits at UNC-Chapel Hill, UNCW and ECU before obtaining my teaching license and teaching abroad in Cuidad Quesada Costa Rica before landing at Manteo Middle and High. After that, I studied at Gardner Webb University where I obtained my Masters's degree in Administration. As a lifelong learner, I am currently taking a doctoral-level micro-credential course through East Carolina University in order to better myself while modeling the importance of learning for my students and teachers.
Although this year will look and start differently, I believe if we stick together as a family, we can make this school year the most memorable year for all of our kids. Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. As an educator, father and a husband, I value your input and am encouraged to begin working with you all so that we can make Manteo Elementary the best possible place for all our kids.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. Communication is the key to success.
Let's go for the gold MES!
