Principal's Message

Welcome to Manteo Elementary School, where the keys to success are the three R’s: Respect, Responsibility, and Resourcefulness. We are committed to the success of every student as they learn to navigate the beginning of their academic career. In addition to strong reading, math, social studies, and science instruction, we provide a wide variety of programming in art, music, physical education, and digital and print media information. To maximize success, we offer this well-rounded experience in a learning environment that builds social and emotional learning.

We have celebrated many accomplishments at MES. Our students consistently outperform their peers across the state by exceeding expected growth. For the 2018-2019 school year our reading proficiency on state standardized tests increased significantly at each grade level. Each year more and more students are reading at grade level than before, students are consistently exceeding growth expectations in math, and our science proficiency is the highest in our history. In June of 2019, we sent one of the most academically prepared groups of students to middle school this year than in recent memory.

Successful student outcomes are a shared responsibility. We can help our students to be successful because of strong community and family commitments. Additionally, our teachers and staff at MES each are dedicated to helping our students to succeed beyond their expectations. As families, continue to read with and to your children regardless of their grade level, and allow them to read to you. Set aside time every day to tell them how important their education is and how proud you are of them. Keep up with school events by monitoring our website and Facebook pages. Also, consider joining our PTO as they raise funds to go directly to support students in the classroom.

Manteo Elementary School is a great school in a beautiful community. Please join with us as we ensure that every child has a champion to support them, celebrate them, and care for them.
