Manteo Elementary School music theatre students at Hugh R. Copeland Center.
Hannah Nash

For the fourth year in a row, music theater students at Manteo Elementary Students recently had the opportunity to travel to Virginia as part of an ongoing partnership with Hugh R. Copeland, the Founder and Director of the Hurrah Players.

This year the Hurrah Players were performing Disney's Frozen, Jr. The Manteo Elementary students first traveled to the Hugh R. Copeland Center in Norfolk where they met the cast and production crew, toured the facilities including the set design and seam shop and the new filmmaking school, and watched an evening rehearsal to learn more about the production process. Then, the students traveled to the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach for the performance of Frozen and enjoyed a backstage tour with the director and meet and greet photo opportunities with the cast.

The Manteo Elementary students will apply the skills they gained during these experiences to their own spring production of Disney's High School Musical, Jr. which is scheduled for May 9 at 6:00 PM and May 10 at 2:00 PM. The show is directed by Hollie Writtenberry, Music Teacher, who is assisted by Patricia Gale, Mariela Martinez, and Helen Corbett.
